Abstract

1,103,257. Gas blast switches. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD. 31 Oct., 1966 [1 Nov., 1965], No. 46172/65. Heading HlN. . The contacts 13, 14 of a gas-blast switch, employing an electronegative gas, separate in an explosion pot 11 having side vents 16, 17 extending in one radial direction from the axis of the contacts. The movable rod-shaped contact 13 is withdrawn from the pot through an orifice 12 which also serves as a vent so that the gas flows both radially and axially. The gas may be sulphur hexafluoride (SF 6 ) while the pot 11 is made of, or lined with, boron nitride or polytetrafluoroethylene (p.t.f.e.).
