535,503. Work gauges for grinding-machines. CHURCHILL MACHINE TOOL CO., Ltd., and ASHBRIDGE, H. H. March 21, 1940, No. 5318. [Class 60] A work gauge for precision grinding machines comprises two gauging contacts f, g which irrespective of the size of the work are arranged always to engage the work n at opposite ends of a vertical diameter, the contact f being mounted on a frame a carrying an electrical contact k and the contact g being mounted on a lever h pivoted to the frame at i and carrying the cooperating contact j. The lever h may operate a dial gauge p and the engagement of contacts j and k causes withdrawal of the wheel o when the work is reduced to size. The frame is pivoted at b to a link c which is pivoted to a base d. A screw m limits the movement of the link c. Another pivoted link q has a closed bifurcation which receives a pin t on the frame to ensure that when the frame is moved forward by the handle u the contacts f, g pass horizontally over the work piece. In operation, a piece of correct size is mounted and the frame pushed forward until link c engages stop m. The contact f is first adjusted to lift the pin r from the base of its slot and then contact g is adjusted to give the required distance between the gauge contacts when the contacts j, k are in engagement and the dial reads zero. Thus, when a subsequent work-piece reaches the required size the contacts j, k will engage and cause withdrawal of the wheel.
