Abstract

756,064. Gauges. DEGEN, A. A. C. Nov. 4, 1954 [Nov. 4, 1953], No. 30463/53. Class 106(2). The work is supported on a table 21, Fig. 2, and gauged by the appropriate one of a number of feelers 32, 33, 34 each adjustably mounted in a carrier 29 pivotally mounted between two pairs of parallel links 27, 28, Fig. 3, the links being pivotally mounted in the frame by spindles 30, 31. A crank 39 on one end of the spindle 31 has a link 40 connected to a lever 41 pivotally mounted on the frame and having an operating handle 42. A spring 43 connected to the lever 41 tends to urge the lever system in a direction raising the feelers 32-34 away from the work and this action is normally greater than that of a further spring 49 which tends to rotate the links 27, 28 to lower the carrier 29 with the feelers into contact with the work. The action of the spring 43 is transmitted to the links 27, 28 by means of a transverse rocker bar 47 pinned by a pin 45 to the spindle 31 and normally urged by the spring 43 acting through the levers 40, 41 into contact with lugs 48 on the lower links 28. Depression of the handle 42 removes the bar from contact with the lugs 48 whereupon the springs 49 rotate the links 27, 28 in a counterclockwise direction. Gauging movements of the feelers are transmitted by a pin 36 on a lug 35 projecting from the rear of the carrier 29 through a two-armed lever 37, 25 to the plunger 24 of the dial gauge 23. The feeler therefore only actuates the gauge over the latter part of its movement towards the article and the apparatus may be preset to indicate divergence from a standard article. Fine adjustments and stop members are provided.
