714,476. Linear-dimension; gauges.JOHNSON, P. W., JOHNSON, S. G., and JOHNSON, C. V. [trading as JOHNSON GAGE CO.]. Oct 1, 1952 [Oct. 17, 1951], No. 24625/52: Class 106 (2) A linear dimension gauge, Fig. 1, comprises a frame 11 on which are two relatively movable arms 31, 36 held at a desired angular relationship by screws 40 and forming a rotatable cradle about a common pivot 42, each arm carrying a generally cylindrical work engaging element 25, 26 respectively the axes of which are parallel, there being co-operating means 20 carried by the frame and having at least one work engaging element 16 spaced from the path of movement of the other two gauging element 25 and 26. Thus the cradle may be tipped upwards by a lever 62 to facilitate the insertion of a test piece T between the three work engaging elements 25, 26 and 16. On lowering the cradle. the diameter of the test piece T is indicated on a dial gauge 10 through the medium of a pivoted lever 17 carrying the cooperating elememt 16. The work-engaging elements 25, 26 and 16 may be in the form of studs or rollers. When pre-setting the elements 25, 26 and 16 to desired zero positions for given a test pieces templates such as are shown in Figs. 7 and 8 are used, all appropriate nuts and screws being slackened and the studs or the axles of the rollers adjusted in position to fit their respective holes in the templet and, whereupon the said nuts and screws are tightened and the templets removed. The surfaces of the templets are stepped as shown so that only one stud or roller at a time has to be caused to enter its appropriate hole.
