Abstract

535,486. Self-aligning bearings. BRITISH TIMKEN, Ltd., and DOUGHTY, E. H. Jan. 17, 1940, No. 994. [Class 12 (i)] A locomotive connecting or eccentric rod 1 with an eye or ring 2 encircling the crankpin 4 has a bearing member provided with external covers 8 having annular extensions 9 projecting within the eye 2 and forming a spherical housing for the spherical exterior 7a of the bearing 7, the bearing and housing being anchored together by-bolts 12 passing through and securing the covers 8 and also engaging recesses in adjacent parts of the housing'and bearing. The covers may be anchored within the eye by one or more bolts 14 which engage recesses in the extensions 9 and in the eye 2 at points near the shank of the rod without cutting through the fibres of the rod. The bearing may have conical rollers 6, as shown, a single row of rollers or balls, or a single spherical block with liner.
