[Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIX] In the systems described in Specifications 523,575 and 524,671 for converting sound, television or other waves into a train of pulses defining time periods representative of signal amplitudes, the time periods instead of consisting of increases or decreases of a fixed period according to whether the amplitude is positive or negative, comprise increases (or decreases) of fixed minimum (or maximum) periods. The invention is applicable to any of the types of pulse trains described in the above mentioned Specifications and is effected by combining with the wave, before conversion into pulse form, a direct current component which varies with the amplitude level of the wave. The vision wave in television systems is used without modification if the D.C. component is present.
