527,904. Pulse transmission. KOLSTERBRANDES, Ltd., and BEATTY, W. A. Jan. 31, 1939, No. 3311. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] Fixed edge pulses of a double-pulse transmitting system are suppressed at the transmitter as described in Specification 511,222 and 523,575 and their generation at the receiver is synchronized by the line-synchronizing pulses in a simultaneously radiated television signal. The accompanying sound is translated to double pulses representing respectively the beginnings and ends of periods, whose duration depends on the momentary amplitude of the sound wave, and one pulse of each of the double pulses has a definite time relationship with the linesynchronizing pulses and is suppressed. The reinserted fixed edge pulses are set up in the output circuits of targets 12, 13 in a cathode-ray tube, the beam of which is deflected by a timebase circuit synchronized by the line synchronizing signals. In order that the fly-back stroke 14 does not cause the spot 10 to recross the plates 12, 13, the two symmetrically deflecting coils 16 are enclosed in a magnetic cylinder in two halves 18, 19 with a small gap 20 between them. This gap is asymmetric relatively to the deflecting field.
