535,320. Artificial legs. WOODALL, C. Nov. 6, 1939, No. 29463. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] An artificial knee joint comprises a member 12 hinged to a thigh socket 11 and a shank member 14 by means of pintles 25, 32. Straps 36 lined with friction material 40 press against the pintles and their friction may be varied by adjusting screws 42. A wedge 85 is provided for rotation into a position between a shoulder 57 of the knee-member and an abutment 59. The leg is thus not able to be straightened completely, the weight of the body being taken on the toe for running, climbing or dancing.
