454,142. Artificial legs. HANGAR & CO., Ltd., J. E., SMITH, T. B., and DADSON, A. J. S., Roehampton House, Roehampton, London. April 21, 1936, No. 11395. [Class 81 (ii)] A knee-joint comprises a spring mounted on one leg member and a co-operating lever or the like mounted on the other member, the spring not connecting the two members but bearing against the lever so that it assists in holding the leg in place both in the straightened and the flexed positions. The lever d, Fig. 1, mounted on the knee bolt c and carrying a roller e, engages a leaf spring f provided with an adjusting screw h. Alternatively, the lever may act on a plunger movable relative to a cylinder housing a helical spring, or on a rubber buffer mounted within the thigh member. In Fig. 4, the lever bears on a hinged bar p carrying a spring q or ql.
