Abstract

535,109. Ventilators for vehicles. ROE, L. B., and ROE, J. J. A. Nov. 13, 1939, No. 29909. [Class 137] An air extracting device is hinged to a frame enclosing an opening to a vehicle so that when the extracting device is raised as in Fig. 4, air flows directly from the interior through the opening, but, when the device is closed as. in Fig. 3 the air is extracted through the device. To a frame a a cover b is hinged at b<SP>1</SP> and the cover has a front baffle d, and a rearwardly extending top plate d' with a forward rib d<SP>2</SP>, and full width duct d<SP>3</SP>, openings c being provided and enclosed by an upstanding flange c' which prevents water passing through the openings. Lugs b<SP>5</SP> on the cover are attached to links b' pivoted at b' and enclosing springs which retain the cover in an open or closed position. A handle b<SP>10</SP> serves for opening or closing the cover. With the cover closed as in Fig. 3, vitiated air is drawn through the apertures c and the duct d<SP>3</SP> and is swept away over the roof of the extractor. When the cover is open air escapes directly through the opening in the frame a and some ventilation effect may occur due to the air extractor in the elevated position.
