Abstract
534,495. Joint-making materials. PHILPLUG PRODUCTS, Ltd., and TAYLOR, C. H. Oct. 13, 1939, No. 27867. [Class 70] A joint-making material for pipes contains 10 per cent. by weight of asbestos or other fibres, 70 per cent. of powdered cement, 8 to 12 per cent. of finely powdered sodium carbonate or silicate or other hardening agent and 8 to 12 per cent. of powdered hydrated lime or other waterproofing agent. An insoluble pigmenting compound such as iron oxide may be added. The material is moistened with a small amount of water, rolled or shaped to the form of a rod suitable to be wrapped around the spigot end of a pipe in its socket, and the material is then rammed into the socket. Water pressed from the mass may be taken up by dry material added.
