Abstract

An anti-freezing, corrosion-preventing liquid for addition to cement mortar to facilitate building operations at low temperatures, comprises an aqueous solution of calcium chloride, soap in the form of liquid, flake or spirit, and boric acid. The solution has a freezing point below - 58 DEG F. and a boiling point above 248 DEG F. Proportions of ammonium chloride, potassium nitrate and potassium chloride may be added to the solution or a proportion of ammonium nitrate alone. Proportions of all four of these salts may be added to the solution. A specified solution contains 52 per cent of calcium chloride, and 2 per cent each of soap flakes and boric acid, the proportions being calculated by weight. The dry ingredients may be mixed together and stored in air-tight containers ready for use.
