Abstract
Ammonium sulphate-nitrate is rendered stable for storage, particularly for the fertilizer industry, by adding thereto urea and non-deliquescent salts which in a dehydrated state are capable of combining with water of crystallization. Salts of magnesium, aluminium, iron in the ferrous or ferric state and Glauber's salt are specified. The salts may be used in the anhydrous or partially or completely hydrated condition. Preferably, about one part urea per three parts of salt is employed, \ba1/4\be-10 per cent by weight of urea being used. The mixture may be added to the ammonia sulphate-nitrate at any time during its preparation. In examples, urea is added to a solution of ferrous sulphate, and the mixture added to an agitated mixture of ammonium sulphate and nitrate; hydrated aluminium sulphate or dehydrated magnesium nitrate and urea are added to ammonium sulphate-nitrate; a hot solution of Glauber's salt and urea is sprayed on to ammonium sulphate-nitrate with mixing. The mass is dried in some cases, for instance, at 100 DEG C.
