Abstract

252,906. Novocretes, Ltd., and Case, G. O. March 2,7, 1924. Addition to 225,912. Plastic compositons. containing mineralized fibres and cement.-Fibrous material such as sawdust, wood pulp, coir, cork, &c. is damped to complete saturation with a suitable liquid and is then brought into contact with a substance which reacts with the damping liquid to produce an insoluble compound in and on the fibrous material. The damping liquid may be a solution of a metallic salt, either normal or highly basic. Chlorides and nitrates of iron, calcium, and magnesium and salts of aluminium and chromium are mentioned as suitable. The precipitating agent, which may 'be used in the dry state, may be calcium hydrate, sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, magnesium oxide, or other alkali or alkaline earth. The mineralized material retains its loose granular form, and is adapted for use as an aggregate for concretes and like compositions. Specification 236,450 is referred. to.
