533,733. Variable pitch propellers. HOOVER, W. S. Nov. 17, 1939, No. 30280. Convention date, May 31. [Class 114] The gear for oscillating the blades of a variable pitch propeller includes a gear train with a variable gear ratio continuously in operation so that a varying mechanical advantage may be matched to the varying resistance which the blade offers to turning at various points. The bevel wheel 24 gearing with the bevel wheel 22 on the propellor blade 18 is integral with an internal gear 34 which is driven from a gear wheel 28 driven by the device for changing pitch. The pinion 36 interposed between the gears 34, 38 is carried by the eccentrically mounted link 42 which is also pivoted at 44 to a member 46 secured 'to the propeller hub. The device for adjusting pitch comprises a vane type motor 52, connected by alternate supply and exhaust ducts 72, 74, with a governor controlled valve 82 which is also connected with a pump 76 and drainage duct 84.
