Abstract

337,324. Barbarou, M. J. B. March 19, 1929, [Convention date]. Screw propellers. - In screw propellers wherein the pitch is automatically varied under the control of an auxiliary propeller of fixed pitch, the shaft of the auxiliary propeller is connected by gears with gears on the roots of the main propeller blades and an elastic resistance is interposed between them. The blades 10 whose pitch is to be varied carry bevel wheels B and these gear with a bevel wheel 42 on the shaft of an auxiliary propeller 45. Connected with the wheels 8 are. roller projections 24 which bear on opposite sides of a laminated spring 23 secured at the centre to an arm 6 projecting from the hub 1<a> on the main driving shaft 60. The hub 1<a> is extended to form spigots 1 for the roots of the blades and is further extended at 62 to form stiffeners for the middle of the blades.
