Abstract

496,824. Screw propellers. ASA.- KURA, G. July 27, 1937, No. 20788. [Class 114] In variable-pitch screw propellers wherein loose and fixed pinions on the propeller shaft co-operating with the train of wheels, are utilized for obtaining pitch variation, the floating train of wheels is carried by a number of interconnected linked frames. Each blade 3 is provided at its root with a worm-wheel 4 engaging a worm 5 on a shaft carrying a bevel wheel 6 in turn engaging a central bevel wheel 7 freely mounted on the shaft 1. The bevel wheel 7 has its boss extended and at the other end is provided with a spur wheel pinion 9. Adjacent thereto but secured to the shaft is another spur wheel pinion 13. The pinions 9 and 13 are coupled by gear wheels 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, the spindles 14, 15, 16, of which are mounted in frames 17, 18 linked about those axles. The shaft 16 of the pinion 12 is produced and carries a worm-wheel 20 meshing with a worm-wheel 22 which is either handactuated or power-actuated. Normally, the system rotates as a fixed whole, but movement of the worm-wheel 20 produces relative motion of the pinion 13 and the pinion 9 and thus effects actuation of the worm-wheel 4 and pitch change.
