Abstract
512,105. Screw and nut actuators. ELEKTRON CO. Dec. 2, 1938, No. 35138. Convention date, Jan. 12. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIII] Relative movement of aircraft parts, particularly retractable undercarriages, is obtained by means of a strut, variation of the length of which is obtained by longitudinal movement of one part of the strut produced by an electric motor which forms part of the strut. The casing of the motor 1 is connected by a part 5 to the aircraft body and the motor shaft 2 is adapted to extend by a screw thread 3, a rod 4 connected to a retractable undercarriage. Rotation of the rod 4 is prevented by a part 8. In a modification the motor shaft drives the screw thread by-means of a differential gear, the screw thread and the rod 4 being arranged in the hollow motor shaft. In further modifications different geared arrangements are shown, in one of which the rod. 4 is toothed and driven by a wheel having inclined teeth, which is driven by gearing from the motor shaft. In a further modification the toothed rod is driven by a pinion on a shaft driven by bevel gear from the motor shaft. In two further modifications the rod.4 is at the side of the motor and is driven by gearing and screw thread or a wheel with inclined teeth engaging teeth on the rod.
