Abstract
499,223. Screw propellers; toothed gearing. VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. July 30, 1937, No. 21116. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1936. [Class 114] [Also in Group XXIV] In gear for varying the pitch of screw propeller blades of the kind comprising double return epicyclic gear each double planet wheel is formed as one wheel with wide continuous teeth, while one or both of the central wheels engaging therewith is or are provided with corrected teeth, i.e. although having the same diameter they have a different number of teeth. A pinion 1<1> forms the final drive through bevelled wheels with the propeller blades, whilst another similar pinion 1<1> is secured upon the propeller shaft. Between these two is a double train of epicyclics carried by two cages of which one is fixed and the other is adjustable. The planet pinions 2<1> are broad and mesh with the pinion 1<1> and an intermediate pinion 4<1>. Although the pinions 1<1> and 4 are of the same diameter, they have a slightly different number of teeth whereby an overall large gear reduction is obtained.
