Abstract

[Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] A pressure-tight joint for lengths of a fluidfilled cable conduit consists of a flexible ring 11 inside a rigid collar 10 which is of insulating material or has an insulation lining and an insulating washer 9 between the abutting ends of the lengths 4, 5. Fluid pressure keeps inwardly turned parts of the ring 11 tight against the pipes, and the rigid collar limits the play between the lengths. If the cable is metal sheathed it is provided with a continuous or sectionalized insulating cover to prevent bridging across the washer 9.
