Abstract

531,299. De-icing airscrews ; engine accessories. VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. July 17, 1939, No. 20780. Convention date, Feb. 20. [Classes 4 and 114] De-icing apparatus for the airscrews of aircraft having air-cooled engines with cooling fans mounted in front thereof comprises an annular channel on the fan fed with anti-freezing fluid from a fixed reservoir on the aircraft, branch pipes from the channel leading to the usual annular channel on the airscrew from which pipes lead to the blades. A fan b is shown, driven at a higher speed than the airscrew by gearing f, f<1>, and enclosed by a cowling c. Antifreezing fluid is fed from a pipe n to an annular channel m from which pipes o, o<1> lead to the annular channel i on the airscrew.
