Abstract

531,135. Closures for bottles and cartons. ASHWORTH, D., ASHWORTH, J., and SMITH, R. July 13, 1939, No. 20368. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure for a bottle, carton or the like, has a drop - delivery cap d upon which is superimposed a clamping cap e of tough tearable material such as soft metal. The lip of the bottle a has notches b, and the cap d, of waxed paper, has apertures d<SP>1</SP> which in some positions of the cap register with the notches b. The cap d is placed in position with apertures and notches out of register, and the cap e placed over it. A bottle capping machine is used to compress the caps and to turn the edges into the groove c on the bottle neck. The cap e has a tearing tab f, and after the cap is torn, the waxed paper cap may be turned to bring the apertures and notches into register for pouring out purposes. The one piece metal cap e may be replaced by a disc and clamping band with a locking tongue on the top or at the circumference. Specification 385,123 is referred to.
