[Class 42 (i)] In apparatus for stretching and finishing tubular fabrics or fabrics sewn into tubular form, the flat stretcher frame has travelling bands 31 at its edges which are driven by external rollers 24. The bands 31 may be of leather, fabric, chain, or spiral spring and may be in front of or behind or both in front of and behind the drive rollers 24. The bands may extend along the non-parallel parts 45 of the spreader, or a single band may serve both sides of the spreader as shown in Fig. 11. The drive rollers 24 may be plain cylindrical rollers as shown in Fig. 11 in which case rollers 50 for supporting the frame are provided, or grooved as shown in Fig. 3. In this case the rollers 33 carrying the band 31 are driven by the parts 36 of the roller 24, the bands travelling faster than the fabric, but the speeds of the fabric and bands may be equal or in any other ratio, so that if desired the fabric may be shrunk longitudinally before it enters the calendering &c. rolls 21. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 shows a drying chamber fitted with several superposed travelling spreaders connected by curved guide frames. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
