Abstract

419,144. Finishing tubular fabric. SHERRATT, W., Sunnyside Mills, Macclesfield, and COOKE, W. R., c/o Cooke (Leicester), Ltd., Rugby Street, Leicester. May 1, 1933, No. 12610. [Class 42 (i).] Fabric, particularly knitted fabric, in tubular form is dried and stretched by treatment with hot air while subjected in progression along its length to longitudinal and circumferential stretch, which stretch, considering successive portions of the fabric, has a constant longitudinal value and a uniform circumferential value. The drying is performed while the fabric is drawn upwards over a flat vertical stretcher. In the form shown, the material is drawn from a cartridge 13 over an inverted frusto-conical member 19 secured in a " floating " position by two adjustable chains 20. The fabric may be drawn up by means of hooked tapes or the like. From the member 19 the fabric passes over a flat vertical frame and through finishing rolls as described in Specification 300,447, [Class 42 (i)]. The member 19 is preferably slightly elliptical in section, with the minor axis in the plane of the flat frame, the eccentricity varying with the tension of the chains 20. Hot air is passed up through the cartridge to the inner side of the fabric on the flat frame. Specifications 106,899, 242,734 and 298,184, [all in Class 42 (i)], also are referred to.
