529,059. Rotary air pumps. JOHNSON, J. P. May 11, 1939, No. 14131. Drawings to Specification. [Class 110 (ii)] In a pump of the Roots' blower type, oil from ball-bearings is prevented from reaching the rotors by means of saticer-like throwing discs on the . rotor shafts, the rims of which run within cavities in the casing walls. Oil drains are provided in the cavities. The driven wheel of the gears connecting the rotor shafts has an undercut cavity within which the rim of another saucer-like throwing disc on the shaft rotates. Oil is supplied to this disc and delivers it to the cavity from which it passes to the tooth spaces through oil holes. The amount of oil supplied to the disc is determined by the clearance between a pin, carried at the end of the rotor shaft, and a bushing in the casing to which oil is freely supplied. In manufacture, the driven wheel is frictionally held to its rotor shaft until the intermeshing of the rotors is correct and is then permanently held in position by pins or rivets. Each rotor shaft has a splined portion of larger diameter engaging one end of its rotor and a smaller smooth portion with a flange that engages an internal shoulder of the rotor.
