Abstract
528,530. Lubricant dispensing apparatus. KREMER, R. W. May 9, 1939, No. 13816. [Classes 102 (i) and 102 (ii)] Apparatus for dispensing lubricant comprises a piston 11 slidable within a container 1 for the lubricant and fixed to a tubular piston rod 13 provided with rack teeth 16 forming part of a rack and pinion mechanism by which the piston is moved to force lubricant through an aperture 12 in the piston into the rod 13 which passes through the cover 7 of the container, the upper end 23 of the rod 13 always remaining outside the cover. The rack and pinion mechanism may be operated by a lever 20 which rotates a pinion 17 through a preferably reversible ratchet coupling 21. The upper end 23 of the rod 13 may be provided with a platform 25 with co-axial grooves 26 to receive inverted grease-gun cartridges or other receptacles 24 of different sizes. The latter may be held in position by a cover 28 carried by a rod 29 which is guided by a tube 32 which passes with clearance through the cover 7 and is secured to the piston 11. Alternatively, the upper end 23 of the rod 13 may be closed by a hollow cap 40 leading to an outlet pipe 41 and housing an externally operated pinion 48 which engages a rack 47 on the rod 43 of a piston 44 having a non-return valve 46 and slidable within the hollow piston rod 13, for delivering a pre-determined measured quantity of lubricant.
