635,021. Taphole barrels &c. FUTS METALLIQUES GALLAY SOC. ANON. Aug. 5, 1947, No. 21290. Convention date, Jan. 24, 1941. [Class 21] [Also in Group XXIX] A device for tapping barrels, etc., comprises a base 1 crimped in an opening in the barrel, an outer tube 10 slidable in the base and having a closed outer end 12, an open inner end and an outlet aperture 20, and a shorter inner tube 11 slidable but not rotatable in the outer tube; the tubes being adjustable to one or other of three relative positions, viz: a first position wherein both tubes extend wholly into the barrel, a second position wherein the inner tube 11 extends wholly and the outer tube partially, out of the barrel, the outlet aperture being covered by the inner tube, and a third position, as shown, wherein both tubes extend wholly out of the barrel with the outlet aperture uncovered. A spring 22 urges the tubes from the first to the second position when a bridge 17 on the inner tube engages a stop 9 on a rod 8 carried by a U-shaped element 5 secured to the base. The device is moved from the second to the third position by pulling a handle 15, which permits a gradual opening of the outlet aperture. Lugs 16 on the mouth of the outer tube engage slots in the U-shaped element, and in the first position, these lugs lockingly engage ramps 6 on the U-shaped element by rotating the handle and tubes through 90 degrees.
