Abstract

496,452. Stoppers. UNITED STATES RUBBER PRODUCTS, Inc. April 2, 1938, No. 10123. Convention date, April 2, 1937. [Class 125 (iii)] A stopper 6 for a rubber container such as a hot-water bottle or ice-bag is provided with a thermometer, the bulb 11 being enclosed in the body of the stopper for heat exchange with the contents of the container and the tube 15 extending outwardly so that the temperature may be read through a window 14 in the stopper. The stopper 6 is of moulded rubber and engages the threads of a metal ferrule 5 which is disposed in a sleeve 4 and flanged at 7 to support a packing ring 17. The lower end of the opening 10 is closed by a plug 16. In a modification the stopper may be formed with a flat top and the thermometer tube accommodated in a circular groove. As the bulb 11 is mounted in the stopper a difference in temperature exists between the bulb and the contents of the bottle. This temperature lag can be compensated for by corrections of the indicia.
