[Class 27] Apparatus for dispensing small quantities of a liquid, such as lighter fuel, after insertion of a coin, comprises a container 3 filled from a reservoir 2 and connected to a cylinder 8; a piston 10 in the cylinder is operable by a push-button 12 through the inserted coin 25 to apply pressure to the container 3 which then discharges into a measuring vessel 14 from which a measured volume is delivered when the push-button 12 is released. In the absence of a coin, the push-button 12 has no action on the piston 10, its inner end being bored at 12a to clear the piston rod 11. The inserted coin is supported between the opposed ends of the piston rod and push-button so that the piston is carried back by the push-button. The pressure developed in the cylinder 8 is applied to the container 3, closing its filling valve 4 and forcing the contents up a tube 13 to the measuring vessel 14, the delivery nozzle of which is now closed by a needle valve 16 under the action of a spring-loaded lever 17. Surplus liquid passes back from the measuring vessel to the main reservoir 2 by way of an overflow pipe 15. When the push-button 12 is released, it is returned by a spring 20 and, as it approaches its normal position, an arm 18 strikes the lever 17 and opens the needle valve 16 to release the contents of the measuring vessel 14. The piston 10 is returned with the pushbutton by means of a one-way connection 22 between them, the valve 4 then opening so that the container 3 is filled again from the reservoir 2.
