Class 66 [Also in Group XXVIII] A device for dispensing the contents of collapsable tubular containers comprises a pressure tight housing to receive the container in such a way that its orifice is outside the housing and means for generating hydraulic pressure within the housing so as to collapse the container. The container 1 is preferably made in two concentric portions 7 and 8 and is associated with a pump transferring liquid from the reservoir portion 7 to collapse the tube contained in portion 8. The tube nozzle 3 extends through a packing gland 5 to the delivery opening. On the insertion of a new tube 4 portions 7 and 8 are both filled with liquid and to dispense the contents the plunger pump is operated to force liquid from the outer to the inner portion. The size of the pump is such that a suitable quantity of substance for normal use is delivered by a single stroke. The end of the plunger 11 is preferably made with a projecting pin 17 which holds the ball valve 16 open during the first part of the return stroke, thus making a clean cut off to the supply of substance by withdrawing a small part of the liquid in the inner container. A shutter 17<SP>1</SP> covers the delivery opening and is automatically pushed aside by a lever 19 attached to the handle end of the pump plunger whenever the pump is operated.
