Abstract
528,352. Power generating systems. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd., and SAMPSON, W. May 4, 1939, No. 13392. [Class 122 (iii)] In a main and auxiliary steam and feed system for a ship, high pressure high temperature steam from boiler 1 to main engines 2 is returned to the boilers via a closed feed system including a direct contact heater 14 and feed pump 10. Steam for the auxiliaries 3, 3a, and for deck purposes in port, is generated at a lower pressure in an evaporator type of steam generator 4 embodying coils supplied with high pressure steam, the latter after condensation being led in a closed circuit including the heater 14 back to the boilers 1. Exhausts from the auxiliarymachinery 3, 3a, are led back to the auxiliary steam generator 4. The exhaust from the engines 2 passes through a surface feed heater 16 which acts to condense the auxiliary exhaust steam passing through piping 17. 18 is an auxiliary condenser receiving drains from the feed heater 16. A connection 20 leads from 18 to the generator 4. The main feed pump 10 is supplied with high pressure steam through pipes 12 and the exhaust is led through pipes 13 to the heater 14. The auxiliary condenser 18 is connected to a hot well 19 from which a pump 26 draws to supply a drain cooler 7 from the generator 4 through a pipe 8. 21 is a reservoir of distilled feed water for transference to the heater 14 by a pump 22. The generator 4 has a superheater 6 heated by high pressure steam.
