Abstract

406,153. Heating feedwater. SJOSTEN, A., Hoganas, PYK, N. J., and LUNDIN, N. E., M÷lle, both in Sweden. April 25, 1933, No. 12108. Convention date, May 7, 1932. [Class 64 (i).] In a steam boiler with smoke passages and smoke stacks, saturated steam passes from a valved pipe 8, e.g. on a valve chest 7 of a high pressure cylinder on a steam engine, into a superheater in the smoke stack 123 or smoke passages 4-6 or in both, and hence into a spiral tube 22 in a feedwater heating tank 24. The outlet end 27 of the spiral is connected through a valve 29 with the feedwater pipe in front of the heater or with a condenser or hot well. A pressure reduction valve 20 is inserted in the superheater outlet pipe 18 before the closely wound spiral 22, and a steam trap 28 is inserted in the spiral outlet 27 so that the steam is wholly condensed. The superheater consists of tube spirals 10-12 in the smoke stack 123 of the boiler and of pipe loops 13-15 connected between the tube spirals in series therewith and located in the smoke passages 4-6. The loops 13-15 are located in the passages at opposite corners of the stack. The feedwater is pumped through a tube 26 to the boiler. Where there are several stacks of tubes, the spirals and loops are connected by removable couplings. The saturated steam passes in by a pipe 16 passing through the spirals 10-12 to one extreme and loop 15, and superheated steam escapes from the opposite extreme end loop 13. The feedheater 23 may be combined with exhaust steam pipes from the auxiliaries.
