Abstract

527,726. Magnetos. LUCAS, Ltd., J., ROBINSON, C. E., and HUYTON, A. April 14, 1939, No. 11314. [Class 35] A cycle-lighting magneto of the type adapted to be mounted at one end of the wheel hubs has a permanent magnet rotor with imbricated poles surrounding a stator, also with imbricated poles, its rotor having a central boss supported in a bearing sleeve mounted on the stator, and surrounding the wheel hubs. The stator comprises two imbricated sets of polepieces m mounted on a cylindrical member a having a closed end formed with a boss d which is clamped between a shoulder e on the wheelspindle and the fork g. The rotor comprises an annular magnet g with imbricated pole-pieces r mounted on a plate o by means of a flange s. To the plate o is attached a boss p rotating within a bearing sleeve l in the member a. The rotor is driven by means of a plate t mounted on the hub f and carrying a cam v formed of discs of leather, rubber or the like, which can be brought into the path of a projection on the rotor by means of a lever x. Fig. 6 shows an alternative driving- device consisting of a wire spring 5 mounted in the rotor and having a bent portion 6 with which the end of the lever x may be made to engage.
