527,649. Valve circuits; wireless receiving apparatus. KRAMOLIN, L. DE. April 17, 1939, No. 11631. Convention date, April 30, 1938. [Class 40 (v)] The resonant frequency of a high frequency circuit is varied by varying the direct current component of the discharge path of a gas or vapour-discharge tube acting as a variable inductance in the said circuit. In the Figure, the neon tube V<SP>1</SP> is connected across the inductance L of the frequency determining circuit of an oscillator V2 back-coupled at L1. The inductive effect of V1 is varied by varying its discharge current by means of a slider on potentiometer R. The condensers Cl, C2 are so chosen that sawtooth oscillations at any frequency near to the working frequency are not set up ; the tube is also shunted by an inductance for that purpose. The tube may itself act as an oscillator and its oscillating properties at high frequencies may be stimulated by using a gas filling of low atomic weight, e.g. hydrogen ; or a separate auxiliary amplifier may be provided. The invention is specially applicable to remote control of tuning and automatic frequency and selectivity control. Specifications 386,356 and 408,943 are referred to.
