Abstract
527,161. Snap-action switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 1, 1939, No. 10231. Convention date, April 1, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] In a limit switch, movement of a machine member 59, Fig. 7, operates a double-armed cam member 61 with a snapaction from the full to the dotted line position, or vice versa, the member 61 being connected through a dead-centre and transmission spring mechanism to a contact arm which is held in either of its two positions by a permanent magnet. The member 61 is fixed to a shaft 46 which carries a member 49 influenced by the dead-centre spring 57. As the member 49 is rotated in a clockwise direction an arm 49<1> on it moves into engagement with the right hand end of the spiral transmission spring 58, the left hand end of which then bears with increasing tension against a lug 52 on a two-armed member 29, 30, the arm 30 of which is held magnetically to a permanent magnet 26. With further rotation the member 49 passes its dead centre position and one of its two arms 50, 51 positively engages the lug 52 to force it away from the magnet. This action is a push rather than a blow since the springs 57, 58 here act in opposition. The member 29, 30, carrying with it the contact member, not shown, now moves rapidly into its other position where the arm 29 is held by the magnet 26. Specification 423,897, (Group II], is referred to.
