Abstract
526,840. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., FRANCIS, V. J., and WILSON, G. H. March 27, 1939, No. 9493. [Class 39 (i)] In a high pressure metal vapour discharge lamp wherein the brightness of the discharge exceeds 2,000 candles per sq. cm. cadmium and/or zinc are added to the mercury in such an amount that the red ratio of the light from the discharge column is at least 25 per cent greater than it would be in the absence of the cadmium and/or zinc, the distance, voltage and current between the electrodes being unchanged. The effective red ratio-which includes the light obtained from the electrodes-may be further increased by the use with a lamp of a filter comprising Rhodamine B and Tartrazine. An example with a quartz envelope of 44 mm. maximum diameter and electrode spacing of 5 mm. is described.
