Abstract
428,084. Metallic vapour lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and MITCHELL, J. H., 8, Graham Road, Rugby. Nov. 8, 1933, Nos. 31130/33 and 6200/34. [Class 39 (i)] In a tubular electric discharge lamp containing metal vapour, the ends of the tube are drawn into a conical shape of reduced diameter, an electrode being mounted at the apex of each cone. Further improvement in the temperature distribution may be obtained by providing small reflectors in the form of a cap or washer of metal or metallized glass at the apex of each cone. Mixtures of mercury with cadmium, zinc, magnesium, tin, &c. may be employed, preferably in the unsaturated state, a vapour filling consisting of a mixture of about 63 per cent mercury and 37 per cent cadmium being given as an example. The metal, or an amalgam in the desired proportion, is formed into a wire and introduced through the exhaust tube.
