Abstract

526,787. Composite building blocks. STRONG, W. E. S. May 11, 1939, No. 14130. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] A building unit comprises an outer recessed block or shell 10 of concrete, which is subjected to simultaneous vibration and pressure during moulding, and which is afterwards filled with a flocculent material of less density than the block. In one form, the flocculent material, such as vermiculate, is retained by a plate 18 secured in a recess 10d. In another form, the flocculent material is mixed with cement and may be secured in the recess by a bonding medium 12. Fig. 2 shows the shell 10 made in a vibratory sectional mould 13 under the pressure of a plate 15. Excess water passes through holes 17. The bottom mould element 13a is provided with minute openings 13b for the discharge of air ensuing during the moulding of the shell.
