Abstract
517,254. Moulding building &c. blocks. TAYLOR, A. B. Sept. 1, 1938, No. 25616. [Class 87 (ii)] Composite blocks are produced by placing stones in contact with a rigid surface in a frame 1 containing stopping material 4 which will flow into the interstices between the lower parts of the stones, subsequently placing a mould 2 above the frame, pouring in cementitious material to embed the stones, and then when the cementitious material has set, separating the mould and frame from the block and removing the stopping material from the interstices. The frame has sides of wedge section and the mould is shaped to fit over the frame. The frame may, as shown, have a perforated bottom 6 and may stand on feet 7 in a tray 3. Alternatively, the frame may have a solid bottom or it may be-bottomless in which case the stones 5 rest on the tray 3. The frame or tray may be vibrated to level the stopping material 4 and to compact the cementitious material. The sides of the mould and frame may be detachable or hinged. The mould may form part of a block-making. machine. The stopping material may be semi-liquid, e.g., sand and tallow or sand and water, or distinctly liquid, and when, for example, tallow is used, it may be allowed to harden after parts of the stones have been sunk in it.
