455,601. Moulding pulp slabs. VEREINIGTE STROHSTOFF - FABRIKEN, Coswig, Dresden, Germany. Jan. 17, 1935, No. 1636. Convention date, Jan. 17, 1934. [Class 87 (ii)] In moulding slabs from fibrous pulp by means of a moulding frame 4 superposed on a suction chamber 1 and an endless sieve band 2 passed between them, the chamber and frame are filled with liquid to a level 9 above that of the sieve band 2, to provide a cushion of liquid into which the pulp is introduced. When the requisite quantity of pulp has been introduced, the liquid is run off through an outlet 10 and suction is applied. After moulding, the frame 4 is raised by eccentrics 5 and the band 2 moved on to deliver the slab. Packings 6, 7 of rubber or other watertight material are provided on opposed faces of the frame 4 and chamber 1. The band 2 may be supported by gratings 12 on the chamber 1. By introducing pulp while liquid is at the level 9, the pulp is evenly distributed. Colouring agents, disinfectants or binders may be added to the liquid before settling.
