Abstract
526,555. Stabilizing sulphuric anhydride. SOC. RHODIACETA. March 20, 1939, No. 8831. Convention date, March 21, 1938. [Class 1 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] Sulphuric anhydride is stabilized in the form of a liquid at ordinary temperature by mixing it with a lower fatty acid or an anhydride of a lower fatty acid or a mixture of both. A mixture of a lower fatty acid with an anhydride of a different fatty acid may be employed. The SO 3 content of the resulting liquid is preferably kept at greater than 90 per cent. Preferably the SO 3 is added in the liquid or gaseous form to the stabilizing agent. The examples relate to the employment of acetic acid alone or in admixture with acetic anhydride as the stabilizing agent. The product may be employed in organic sulphonation reactions.
