515,141. Butanol-1-one-3 CONSORTIUM FUR ELEKTROCHEMISCHE INDUSTRIE GES. Feb. 22, 1938, No. 5485. Convention date, Feb. 24, 1937. [Class 2(iii)] Butanol-1-one-3 is prepared by the addition of water to butene-1-one-3, in the presence of acids, or to vinyl acetylene, in the presence of acids and mercury sulphate or other compounds known to be effective in the hydration of acetylene, and isolated from the reaction solution under accurately neutral conditions. #.#<1>-diketobutylether is a by-product in both reactions. In examples (1) vinyl acetylene is passed into a solution of mercuric oxide in dilute sulphuric acid, the acid is neutralised and the products, comprising butanol-1-one-3, butene-1-one-3 and #,#<1>diketobutylether, are distilled off in vacuo ; (2) butene-1-one-3 is allowed to stand with N-sulphuric acid for a day, the acid is exactly neutralized, and the same mixture of products as obtained in (1) is distilled off.
