Abstract
305,597. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Feb. 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Addition to 307,776. Emulsions, making.-In the preparation of water soluble products of high emulsifying power, from the fatty acids in wool fat, as described in the parent Specification, the fatty acids are treated with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen, at a high temperature, with or without a catalyst such as cobalt resinate, &c., whereby substances of low molecular weight are volatilized and the acid value of the mixture is decreased. The product obtained by sulphonating the fatty acids and precipitating by sodium sulphate solution, is treated with butyl alcohol and soda lye, when an upper layer of the purified product separates. This may be used to stabilize easily precipitated solutions such as those of the 2: 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid arylides.
