Abstract
301,808. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 5, 1927, [Convention date]. 4- (#-Oxyethylamino )-1-oxybenzene is obtained by heating hydroquinone with 2-aminoethanol, a condensing agent being unnecessary. In examples, (1) the reagents are heated together, the reaction mixture is poured into dilute sulphuric acid, hydroquinone is extracted with ether, and, after rendering slightly alkaline with sodium carbonate, the product is extracted with ethyl acetate and may be recrystallized from a mixture of ethyl acetate and chloroform; an alcoholic solution of the product may be added to sulphuric acid to obtain white crystals of the sulphate; (2) the reagents are heated together and the reaction mixture is diluted with water and the sulphate is precipitated by adding concentrated sulphuric acid; (3) the reagents are heated with an addition of zinc chloride or with water, alcohol, or other diluent, the reaction mixture being poured into dilute sulphuric acid and treated as in the first example.
