302,226. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Addition to 285,087. Toxins, vaccines, and immunizing and like scrums.-The process described in the parent Specification for isolating tuberculin is applied to acid resisting rod bacilli or varieties of streptothrix to obtain substances having an action resembling that of tuberculin. According to examples (1) mycobacter lacticola and (2) streptothrix leproides, are deprived of fatty matter by extraction with alcohol and ether, extracted with water, the aqueous solution freed from albumin by means of dialysed ferric hydroxide, the filtrate (concentrated or not) treated with picric acid to precipitate the active substance, and the precipitate decomposed with dilute hydrochloric acid. The solution of the active substance so obtained is further treated as described in the parent Specification. The use of other acid-resisting rod-bacilli such as bacilli of Rabinowitsch is also referred to. Specification 295,629 is referred to.
