Abstract

515,386. Disinfectant compositions. PARKE, DAVIS, & CO. May 31, 1938, No. 16263. Convention date, June 1. 1937. [Class 81 (i)] Solutions of phenolic germicides are prepared by incorporating therewith in acidic solution a water soluble acid sulphuric acid ester of an alcohol which may be in the form of the free acid ester or its water-soluble salt. The ester is preferably derived from a primary aliphatic alcohol having 8 or more C atoms. An acidity of about pH 2 to 3 is produced in the solution by means of organic or inorganic acids. Esters suitable for the purpose are the products known as Gardinol and Duponol, which are obtained by hydrogenating coconut or palm kernel oil, sulphonating the saturated alcohols obtained therefrom and forming the sodium salts of the esters. Phenolic bodies which are normally practically insoluble are usefully compounded with the esters described, e.g. disecondary hexylresorcinol, mono-chlor-mono-n-hexyl ether of resorcinol, and dioctyl resorcinol. Other ingredients of antiseptic solutions are glycerine, glycol. A germicidal inhalant comprises an aqueous solution containing in addition to. disecondary-hexyl resorcinol and Duponol, sodium chloride, adrenalin, sodium thiosulphate, chloretone and alcohol.
