Abstract

526,358. Gas-producers. WILLANS, K., and KENNEDY, D. S. March 14, 1939, No. 8165. [Class 55 (i)] Fuel is fed by a screw conveyer j to one end of a gasification zone enclosed in a horizontal flue a, air being admitted through a hollow hub d', and the fuel forming a sloping bed q, the ashes falling into a vertical shaft b, and collecting on shelf r' while the gases produced escape through an outlet s at the top of a settling chamber r. Air is supplied from a pipe h through an annular space e<SP>3</SP> and the hollow spokes of a wheel-like member e to the hub d' which is cooled by a water jacket fed from a pipe f, the warm water passing on to a jacket c and a steam dome c'. Additional air may be suplied through a tuyere t. The flue a may be tapering in shape towards the branch b, or its lower side may be sloped upwardly to form a weir a' to maintain a fuel bed adequate for gasification.
