Abstract

PURPOSE: To contemplate complete recovery of tar and to make it possible to separate high-caloric gas and low-caloricgas from each other and to recover them, by dry distilling and gasifying coal by using a multi-stage shaft furnace in which each furnace in each stage is connected through each throat part to each other.
CONSTITUTION: Each of throat 5W7 having a narrow inside diameter is provided between adjacent furnaces in stages 1W4. Raw coal is introduced from a coal-charging port 8 provided at the top of a furnace in the highest stage 4 into the furnace. Oxygen and steam are introduced from a supply port 9 provided at the lower part of a furnace in the lowest stage 1 into the furnace. There are provided conduit pipes 10W12 projecting from each furnace toward outside and laying across the adjacent furnaces in each of the stages 1W4. A branch pipe is provided above the furnace in the highest stage 4. Produced gas is recovered from the branch pipe. Temperature control in each stage is carried out by externally cooling each furnace with gas. The amount of gas in each stage can be controlled by adjusting the amount of gas to be drawn out.
