Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the efficiency of gasification as well as the operability of a gasification furnace and gas refining opeation, by using a system in which an O2-containing gas is blown into the upper stage gasification furnace so as to decompose tar and also the lower stage gasification furnace is operated at lower than a temperature at which clinker is not formed.
CONSTITUTION: Raw material coal is introduced into the upper stage fluid furnace 1, and the coal is carbonized while fluidized at a temperature between 800°C and 950°C maintained by a hot gas ascending through a conduit 3 from the lower stage fluid furnace 2 and combustion heat produced by blowing O2-containing gas 8 into the upper stage fluid furnace 1, and at the same time tar is thermally decomposed to char. The char of coarse grain size is discharged through an overflow pipe 5, and also char of fine grain size with formed gas is separated in a cyclone B, where both are received in a char storage tank C and then supplied to the upper part of the dispersion plate 4 of the lower fluid furnace 2. The char supplied to the fluid furnace 2 is gasified with a gas mixture 9 consisting of the O2-containing gas and steam at 850°C or higher at which clinker is not formed and then sent to the fluid furnace 1. The gas deprived of fine char particles by the cyclone B is dedusted for reuse.
