Chimneys. - A factory or other chimney of brick, concrete &c. has an inner liner b spaced from the shaft a for the full height, and forming a jacket through which air for cooling is passed. The air is admitted at one or more holes in the base and delivered through an inwardly directed annular outlet at the top which is protected from soot &c. by overhung courses h. In addition to the cooling effect an increased draught is produced by the issuing air. The liner and the shaft are independently supported on the foundation.
